If you keep doing what you’ve been doing, you’ll never reach a phenomenal level of success. It’s your choice whether to become better, the same, or worse than you were yesterday.
But you’re about to move forward and reinvent yourself. Trust me, it’ll be worth it. You’ll look back on today and be infinitely grateful you did this.
Here’s what you need to know to reinvent yourself for the new year:
1. Reinvent your destiny
“Sometimes you have to kind of die inside in order to rise from your own ashes and believe in yourself and love yourself to become a new person.”
— Gerard Way
First, imagine your perfect life. Not other people’s idea of perfection, yours. Envision it in crystal clear detail and ask yourself the following questions.
- What is holding you back? How can you fix this problem?
- List what you’d like to gain this year.
- Does your personality mesh with your current job and environment?
- What areas desperately need a change?
Some people will never find happiness by following the crowd. Each person is unique, so we all should custom design our lives.
Imagine, in great detail, every aspect of your dream life and go for it.
In 2018, my husband and I reinvented our lives by moving to Colorado. We spent 9 months traveling through the Rockies in a tiny camper with no running water. It wasn’t a luxurious time, but we found the perfect place for us.
After you reinvent your life, you’ll reap the benefits of it every day. Make a plan and revise it when needed till you reach the life that you love.
2. Reinvent how you see yourself
“Our self-image, strongly held, essentially determines what we become.”
— Maxwell Maltz
Imagine your future self. What does that person look like? Where do they work? Envision your future in extreme detail. Write it down and how you’re going to get there. This is your new self-image. Think of yourself as being that way every day, and you will become it.
You must change how you think about yourself. You must eliminate any self-doubt. Destroy all those negative thoughts about who you are or your abilities. Otherwise, no matter how hard you try, you’ll always plummet back to where you started.
3. Reinvent your daily agenda
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” — Harriet Tubman
Now that you know what needs to change, schedule what you need to do to make it happen. Even small daily tasks can be life-changing, like working out, reading, or working on a goal.
Ask yourself:
- What do I keep doing even though it isn’t working?
- Have I been avoiding taking action because of fear?
- What task would bring me to my goal the fastest?
So, if you need to learn a new skill, look for tutorials online. Otherwise, you could invest in an online course. Make sure you continue making progress until you have your new, improved life.
4. Clear out the junk
You’ll feel less stressed if you don’t have clutter everywhere. I know cleaning isn’t exciting, but when you’re finished, you’ll feel so much better.
It’ll help if you think of decluttering as a calming, meditative process because it can be. In fact, you could enter the flow state and completely zone out. Then the next thing you know, you’ve unloaded a mountain of anxiety-causing junk! That’s a great feeling!
So, relax, turn on your favorite music, and wear comfortable clothes. Then, get two boxes, one for things to put away elsewhere and another for items to donate. Don’t forget a trash can for the junk. Then sit down with a pile of stuff and go through it.
Sort your computer’s files and delete all the stuff you don’t need.
5. Reinvent your mindset
How you think makes a powerful impact on your life. A negative outlook can defeat your chance for success. So, discover what toxic mental habits are holding you back so you can overcome them.
The more you wait to transcend your current way of thinking, the longer it’ll be till you see progress.
Do you have a fixed mindset? Low self-confidence? These beliefs sabotage your happiness, so find out how to overcome them.
6. Learn valuable skills
If you spent a little time every day learning a profitable skill, you’d vastly improve your life after a year.
Examples of valuable skills:
- Marketing and sales
- Time management
- Graphic design
- Programming
- Learn another language
- SEO Optimization
Keep building skills that’ll get you closer to where you want to go.
7. Get to know yourself
“Be a loner. That gives you time to wonder, to search for the truth. Have holy curiosity. Make your life worth living.”
— Albert Einstein
Spend time alone and listen to your thoughts. Even better if you write them down rather than letting them fade away. You can easily do this by keeping a journal. It’s great for tracking progress, venting, and forming new ideas. Of course, it’s also a fantastic way to get to know yourself.
8. Be willing to fail
“You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing and falling over.”
— Sir Richard Branson
If fear of failure holds you back, you won’t do anything incredible with the precious time you have on Earth. You’ll fade into dust along with multitudes of others who were too afraid of being judged.
That nervous, scared feeling you get when you’re about to do something life-changing is a good sign. It means you’re pushing forward and evolving into an upgraded version of yourself.
Don’t take this emotion as a reason to avoid taking action. Fear loses all power when you refuse to bow down to its presence. So, feel those butterflies in your stomach and go for it, anyway. Show fear who’s boss!
9. Do something that scares you
“Try new things every day. Don’t be afraid of failures. You will not lose anything. But your brain will be packed with experiences.”
— Akash Ryan Agarwal
Now that you’re willing to take some risks, challenge yourself to do something out of your comfort zone. Do what you’ve been avoiding. Often it’s these actions that will skyrocket you toward success. Do what scares you before you can bask in the glory of living your new reality.
When you do what scares you, fear vanishes. On the other hand, if you avoid confronting it, it’ll become even more frightening. Thus, ensuring you never do what you need to accomplish your dream.
It’s an incredible feeling to know that what you planned out has brought you to a mind-blowing reality.
10. Reinvent your creative side
“The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul.”
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
If you’ve never tapped into your creativity, try it. Releasing your emotions into an art form is extremely therapeutic. Try painting, making music, writing, or designing. It’s healthy to have a hobby that you can do purely out of enjoyment. Do yourself a favor and give yourself this priceless gift.
11. Become self-actualized
Achieving self-actualization is valuable beyond measure.
When you’re self-actualized, you’ve reached your highest potential. You’ve taken care of all your needs and have mastered your mindset. But you still work towards refining your abilities and yourself for the pure joy it brings.
Humans are hard-wired to fine-tune their lives. Seeing the results will give you an adrenaline boost that makes you want to keep advancing. After a while, you can share your wisdom to help others.
12. Reinvent your budget
“It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor.” – Seneca
You’ll eliminate a mountain of stress by getting your finances under control. So, get a savings account and set it to auto-save a portion of each paycheck.
It doesn’t have to be a fortune; even $20 each time you’re paid can become a lifesaver someday. Afterward, pretend that money doesn’t exist, so you don’t get tempted to spend it.
Only use your credit card for small purchases and pay the balance later that day. If you have any debt, pay as much as you can each month till it’s paid off. Some people move into tiny houses so they can fix their credit. My husband and I also became debt-free while living in an RV.
13. Don’t give up, build resilience
“If you are not where you want to be, do not quit, instead reinvent yourself and change your habits.”
Stay persistent, even if you feel frustrated when you don’t see the results you wanted. The best things in life take time, and I know sometimes it seems like it’s taking forever. But stick with it and impress yourself with how much progress you’ve made.
In order to reinvent yourself, you’ll need unshakable resilience to not give up, despite setbacks. Devote yourself to it.
An indestructible mindset will annihilate your fears. As a result, you build the strength to handle anything from minor annoyances to catastrophes.
In short, reinventing yourself is one of the most important things you could do this year. Take the time to find out what you want out of life. Schedule your actions and go for it. Also, don’t let anyone discourage you; it’s your goal, not theirs. You don’t have to follow the crowd. Make a detailed plan, embrace it, and go for it. Don’t let fear hold you back; your happiness is on the line!
