A healthy level of self-confidence is one of the most important aspects of a person. It’s what gives you the courage to achieve your goals. Without it, you’ll avoid challenges and not attempt anything new. Furthermore, confident people are more charismatic and successful than those without it. That’s why it’s an essential quality to build!

It’s time to ask yourself: Do you like who you are?

If you answered, “No,” then don’t worry; you can still build incredible self-esteem!

Your self-confidence affects every part of your life. Feeling proud of who you are will give you more influence, energy, and motivation. It makes you feel relaxed in social settings and improves your relationships.

Not to mention, it increases the chances that you’ll achieve your goals because it enhances your job performance and strengthens your mental health.

Now, let’s get to the good stuff. This is how you become a confident person:

1. Gain self-confidence by learning who you are

Get some paper and write what positive attributes you have and how they’ll help you succeed.

Ask yourself:

  • What do I like about myself?
  • What do I excel at doing?
  • How do my loved ones describe me?

2. Find out what negative things are lowering your self-confidence

Self-confidence is how much you value yourself in the world. But sometimes, we can get stuck in negativity. How harsh are you to yourself? You could be causing lasting mental damage! Be compassionate and defend yourself against these comments.

The most important relationship you’ll have in life is with yourself, so make it a good one!

You can say any of the following or create a new phrase to motivate yourself:

  • “It’s okay. I’m learning and getting better.”
  • “I am moving past who I was and becoming an amazing new person.”
  • “What happened in the past has no power over me now.”
  • “I’m motivated to live my dream life.”
  • “I don’t need anyone or anything to be happy.”

Although these phrases won’t work until you burn them into your brain with emotion and belief. You want to ingrain them into your mind, and the only way to do that is with repetition.

3. Stop worrying about what others think of you

There has yet to have been a soul to walk this Earth that everyone loved. No matter how amazing you are, there will be someone that doesn’t like you, and that’s okay! Realize that this isn’t out of the ordinary.

Needing people to approve of you is a weakness that devalues your self-esteem. Essentially, you’re teaching yourself that you aren’t good enough alone.

Others’ opinions of you don’t matter because it’s not their life. It’s yours! They’ve never been you, nor will they ever. Moreover, you can’t control their thoughts, so let them go and just be yourself. Stop putting their opinions in such high regard. It’s your opinion of yourself that matters.

So, release the desire for everyone’s acceptance. Focus instead on how you can gain your approval.

4. Avoid comparing yourself to others

You are a unique human, and your life is different from others. Also, you know yourself better than anyone in the world. You’re the only expert on being you. Therefore, you shouldn’t compare yourself to others because you aren’t an expert on being them.

You don’t know that person’s thoughts or fears. Nor do you know of any traumas they’ve experienced.

Only compare yourself to your past or future self and see how far you’ve come or how far you need to go.

5. Improve what you can change and accept the rest

Some things damage your self-confidence but are within your control. Take the initiative to improve them. Stop allowing them to destroy how you feel.

Accept who you are and work on enhancing what you can. Even while you’re improving, accept and love yourself. After you make progress, you’ll gain more self-respect.

6. Learn something new

Learning something new can be a great self-esteem booster. When you attempt new things, you expand your limitations, naturally building your self-esteem.

There are tons of tutorials and apps to teach you whatever you want to know. Studies show learning a new language helps build self-esteem. You can do this for free with the Duolingo app.

7. Accept that you make mistakes

Learning new things builds self-confidence. Although, when you grow and build skills, you’ll make mistakes. That’s normal! Allow yourself to slip up while you’re learning. It’s not the end of the world. Trust that no matter what happens, you’ll be able to handle it and figure it out.

Learn what you need to do so you don’t repeat the situation.

On the other hand, if you deny your mistakes, you’ll doom yourself to repeat them. It’ll be an endless cycle until you learn the solution to your problem.

Boldly admit that you make mistakes and know that it’s okay. You’re human!

8. Practice mindfulness

You continually shape your self-confidence with your environment, life, and relationships. You control those aspects with your thoughts. So, your reality reflects your inner world. So, make sure your perspective is optimistic and encouraging.

Practice mindfulness so you’ll be aware when you start thinking negatively. Then you can pull those thoughts back to positivity. Soon your mind will naturally reassure you every day. Remind yourself that you are unique, valuable, and worthy of love every day; because you are.

9. Exercise

Exercise releases endorphins that stimulate the opiate receptors in your brain. As a result, you’ll feel amazing, energized, and more optimistic.

You’ll feel incredible and have more motivation. It’ll also make you look great, and that boosts your self-confidence!

10. Clean your space

Cleaning and organizing can have a calming, therapeutic effect on the mind. Make yourself do/clean/organize what you’ve been avoiding. It’s not going to disappear or improve on its own. A clean environment will ease your depression and your stress levels. You’ll also increase your self-confidence when you finish.
